It is inevitable that any couple can have marital problems in one way or the other during their married years.  In fact, even “perfect-for-each-other” couples are included in the list of married people experiencing marital dilemmas.  Some couples are able to find instant solutions to their differences while others just could not work things out on their own.  This is where marriage counseling gets in the way.  However, many people may ask one common question “does marriage counseling work?”

Most often than not, a spouse who is reluctant or unwilling to work their marriage out asks such questions as “does marriage counseling work?”  This is to avoid going through marriage counseling sessions, which they think are futile and only broadcasts their personal differences.  In fact, such a spouse would not share or open up even if he or she attends the marriage counseling sessions.  As such, the answer to the question is a big “NO.” It is impossible for anything to work out when the individual is reluctant or refuses to be helped at all.

When Does Marriage Counseling Work? I Have Your Answers

In some cases, marriage counseling does not work for couples because they have chosen the wrong counselor.  It is important that prior to engaging in marriage counseling sessions, you ensure that the counselor is qualified and reliable.  Choose one who has more than enough experience relevant to working marriages out.  Marriage counseling would definitely not work if the counselor per se does not have enough knowledge on what should be taught to couples.

On the other hand, some couples have already attested about the significance of marriage counseling in their lives.  These people have answered “YES” to the question “does marriage counseling work?”  Marriage counseling involves a third party listener who will assess both sides in accordance to what they hear and see from the couples.  This listener should be objective and not take prejudice on any statement provided by either spouse.  Marriage counselors provide expertise and experience in which most of your close friends or family cannot share with you.  Your family and friends may be good in giving pieces of advice; however, marriage counselors have the capability to open the lines of communication between you and your spouse as well as remain neutral during the entire process.
